Team O'Neil Rally 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 8th, 2010, Dalton, NH- Team Hazard Rally completed the first round of the 2010 Rally America Eastern Regional Championship at the Team O’Neil Rally, finishing 3rd in Group 2. The event marked the second outing for the team, who’s previous event was STPR 2009. “I think we did about as well as can be expected,” says Jim Perrin, driver of Team Hazard Rally. “We didn’t go crazy out there, but we did give it about 90%. It was our first event with stage notes, and in the rain, but we still managed to keep it on the road.”
The forecast for the event called for 100% chance of rain, and rain it did, only letting up for the last 2 stages. Luckily, the crew did a great job putting together a rugged truck which required zero attention at the service breaks. This allowed them to focus on staying somewhat dry. “Our goal was really just to finish the event,” says Crew Chief Jesse Luce, “It was disappointing that we DNF’d [mechanical] at our last event, so I wanted to make sure that the truck was squared away so that it wouldn’t be an issue.” “The truck ran like a top for the entire event,” says Jim, “We only had them check fluid levels at the first service because I couldn’t think of anything else for them to do. The engine was strong, and the suspension took the abuse. The only thing I could ask for is a little more power. It was apparent on the straights that we were getting left behind. Maybe for the next event we might be able to do something about that.”
While the event was without major incident, the rest of the weekend had a few hiccups. The service van wasn’t ready in time, leaving the team scrambling for a tow vehicle to borrow. “I called my friend Tom to see if he knew anyone, and it turned out that he was in town and had a pickup we could use,” says Jesse. The team scrambled to get on the road in time and drove through the night. On the way home, a trailer tire managed to pick up a piece of metal and shredded a tire. “Luckily, we were only 20 miles from a Walmart that had the right size tire, and we were back on the road in a couple hours.”
“I just want to thank everyone that made this possible: Jesse, Lee (codriver), Pat (epic crew member), Tom (for loaning us a truck), Paul at SwerveMotorsports.com for helping us out with tires, Matt at United Four Wheel Drive for getting us some new parts, and the event organizers for putting on a great event. See you at STPR!” -Jim Perrin
